50555 vs. 90999?

We have had a few questions come in asking why the Hope For Haiti Now telethon is promoting text GIVE to 50555 to donate $10, rather than text HAITI to 90999. This particular telethon is through the Entertainment Industry Foundation and benefits several charities that are helping bring relief to Haiti, whereas the HAITI to 90999 campaign supports the Red Cross only.

Both campaigns are legitimate and donations will go to help the people of Haiti. So if you have already reached your donation cap on the 90999 campaign, please text GIVE to 50555 to donate more. Every dollar helps. Let’s show the people of Haiti how much we care!

i texted GIVE to 50555, am I suppossed to get a text back like a confirmation just saying that it was succesful or something. I really hope everyone donates as much as they can! We are all brothers and sisters!!!

Zerina – Yes, you will get a text back asking you to reply with YES to confirm your donation. Things are a little backed up due to the volume of donations, so there will probably be a delay. Be patient and don’t forget to reply with YES! Thanks for your support.

Carolyn – What does the message say? The only time you should get a pin# is when you go to http://www.mgive.org/.receipt. Provide me more info please and I will be happy to help!

I tried donating to 50555 and it did not work. I rec’d a msg that said that the 50555 shortcut had expired. I even contacted my carrier who couldn’t tell me why it wouldn’t work.

Hi Emma,
This means that you have premium text messaging (anything that will cost you money) blocked on your phone. You need to ask your wireless carrier to enable premium text messaging and then it will work.

Ok! We all texted this lst night at 8pm est time & it is now 12:35p est time. None of us have a received any kind of of notification confirming that we donated. Something doesn’t sound right here. It cant be this backed up…

Just so you guys know I did the GIVE to 50555, and received a confirmation reply. I did this right as the telethon started so that could be why I got my confirmation so fast. Be patient. This IS legit donation number! Thanks to all who’ve donated

It has successfully implemented 2 pilot schools including the provision of uniforms, teachers’ salaries, supplies, and health care assistance. It now plans to build on this success by providing a full-spectrum of services to Haiti’s poorest areas. ATCAC will be offering its educational, Vocational work skills training, health, women’s and socioeconomic programs to rural areas, such as Cap-Haitian, Limbe, Port Margot, Bayeux, Gonavies, CoCo Beach, and others.
