How to Win the (Mobile) Super Bowl

Win the mobile super bowl

Here at mGive, Sunday February 2nd 2014 is a big day. Super Bowl XLVIII! Being a Denver based company, a lot of us are Broncos fans and it’s been a long road since the last Super Bowl in ’97.

It’s also a big day for text donation. This year will mark the sixth anniversary of our first major text donation campaign. (For a bit of a history lesson, check out our 5th anniversary blog post from last year).

Whatever team you root for, we’ve seen a lot of parallels between football and mobile (seriously!). We pulled some mSpiration from a bleacherreport.com article from last year. If you want to brush up on your football knowledge it’s a great read. But, in true mSpiration spirit, we took their plan and have added our own mGive mobile twist.

Measure the Love in Your Mobile Communication Program

Use mobile to show your donors love

In the popular musical Rent, the characters pose the question, how do you measure the 525,600 minutes that make up a year of our lives?  After pondering “in daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee, in inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife” the characters finally wonder, “how about love?”  Love, they decide, is a good measure for a year of our lives.

But how about mobile?  How do you measure the impact of your text message communication with donors?

Love is also a good yardstick for measuring your mobile program.

The article is an excerpt (and condensed version) from the book Guerrilla Marketing for Nonprofits by Jay Conrad, Chris Forbes and Frank Adkins. We loved all of the tips they shared, and all of them are ‘golden rules’ for any fundraising channel you would use, but work especially well with mobile.

Looking back on 2013

With 2014 now in full swing, we wanted to take a look back at our favorite blog posts from 2013.

We really kicked off 2013 during the Super Bowl. While the Ravens were celebrating their victory, we were celebrating text donation’s 5th birthday in the U.S. We couldn’t have been happier that our client, Wounded Warrior Project, aired a heart-tugging PSA with a mobile call-to-action during the game.

    text donations at events

Let’s do a little role-playing. You’re the Development Director for a nonprofit who is new to text donations. You had your mind set on using it for your annual event with the vision of blowing your fundraising goals out of the water. For the past three months, you and your team have been spending a lot of time and resources planning the details of the event. When the day finally comes, you make sure that all of your poster boards are in place throughout the venue.
